PLF Liberty Blog

Background
Anastasia Boden is an attorney in PLF’s Economic Liberty Project, where she challenges anti-competitive occupational licensing laws, and laws that restrict the freedom of speech.

Anastasia has fought for the right to earn a living free of irrational government laws in federal courts across the country. Her focus is on “Competitor’s Veto” laws, which essentially allow existing businesses to veto new competition. She also testifies to state legislatures on the constitutionality and policy implications of licensing schemes. Her writing has been featured in the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, Forbes, and several other publications, and her law review article about the legal challenge to the Affordable Care Act and its theoretical underpinnings was recently published in the NYU Journal of Law & Liberty. In 2015, Anastasia was selected for the Claremont Institute’s prestigious John Marshall Fellowship.

Prior to joining PLF, Anastasia acted as Research Assistant to Professor Randy E. Barnett while he litigated the constitutional challenge to the Affordable Care Act. She also worked at the Cato Institute’s Center for Constitutional Studies, and at Washington Legal Foundation.

Originally from California, Anastasia earned her B.A. with Dean’s Honors in Global Studies and History from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She went on to get her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.

Anastasia is licensed to practice law in California, the Fourth, Eighth, and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the District Court for the District of Columbia, and the United States Supreme Court.

Anastasia’s interests outside of the law include playing classical piano, playing board games, and listening to the Beatles.

PLF Testimonial

"Individuals for whom a major case is a one shot deal are far more aggrieved. Most individuals cannot afford to do anything with that grievance, and that's where organizations like PLF come in."
