The USA Today article is titled, “Suits over health care law heat up.” It opens by highlighting PLF’s client, small-business person Matt Sissel: “Matt Sissel of Iowa City proudly served in Iraq as a combat medic. But he objects to being ‘conscripted’ into an overhauled federal health care system. ... ‘I don’t want the federal government dictating my personal financial decisions,’ said Sissel, 29. ‘It can’t even run its own budget.’” The full article is linked at the PLF Liberty blog. The case is Sissel v. United States Department of Health & Human Services.

A professional artist in Iowa City, Matt Sissel served eight years in the Iowa Army National Guard, including two years in Iraq. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

PLF is a legal watchdog and pro bono litigator for limited government, property rights, and free enterprise. PLF attorneys represent Matt Sissel in a constitutionally based challenge to the federal health insurance mandate. The lawsuit contends that Congress exceeded its authority under the Constitution’s Commerce Clause by attempting to compel Americans to purchase a federally dictated product or service.

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the PLF lawsuit is titled, Sissel v. United States Department of Health & Human Services. The complaint may be found at PLF’s website.
