Pacific Legal Foundation has teamed up with the Dale E. Fowler School of Law at Chapman University to train the next generation of lawyers to defend the Constitution. PLF's new Liberty Clinic program establishes the nation's only law school clinic giving law students a hands-on role litigating important property rights and economic liberty cases in state and federal trial courts. Students in the clinic devote approximately 10 hours per week to their cases and receive school credit for their effort, working under the close supervision of PLF attorney and Chapman adjunct professor Larry Salzman.
While many other law school clinics promote a curriculum that is indifferent or even hostile to liberty, PLF's Liberty Clinic program teaches students to effectively advance the principle of limited government through litigation. Students in the clinic do meaningful work that makes a real world difference in every case, including researching, meeting clients, assisting in the drafting of complaints and motions, conducting discovery, and even attending court hearings.
PLF's program expands Chapman's successful Constitutional Jurisprudence Clinic, which has developed a reputation during the past decade for teaching students about the original meaning of the Constitution and how to apply those lessons to the preparation of appellate and amicus briefs.
