For third straight year, PLF is ranked a
“Tier 1 Best Law Firm”

U.S. News Best Law Firms 2013 badgeSacramento, CA; December 20, 2012: Pacific Legal Foundation is ranked a “Tier 1 Best Law Firm” for 2013 by U.S. News — Best Lawyers®, the leading survey of lawyers worldwide.

The rankings, based on surveys of thousands of law firms in 118 practice areas, are posted at http://bestlawfirms.usnews.com.

PLF is listed under “Metropolitan Top-Tier Rankings,” in the “Sacramento” category, for the specialty, “Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law.”

The year 2013 will mark the third straight year that PLF has been ranked a “Tier 1 Best Law Firm.”

“We are honored by this important recognition of PLF’s cutting-edge legal work to enforce the Constitution’s protections for people’s property rights,” said PLF Director of Litigation James S. Burling. “We understand that the right to own and use property undergirds all our other liberties. Again and again throughout PLF’s 40-year history, we have established historic precedents to fortify that right and to push back against government attempts to curtail it.”

Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2013, PLF was founded in 1973 by aides to then-Governor Ronald Reagan. They acted after Reagan expressed the need for a public-interest legal organization to defend the public’s interest in limited government, property rights, and free enterprise. PLF is based in Sacramento, with regional offices in Florida and Washington State, and liaison offices in Alaska and Hawaii.

PLF recently won its sixth direct-representation case at the United States Supreme Court — Sackett v. EPA — in which the court unanimously held that property owners have a right to challenge federal “wetlands compliance orders” in court.

Less than seven months after the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision in Sackett, the justices accepted another PLF direct-representation case for property rights, this one out of Florida: Koontz v. St. Johns River Water Management District. Oral argument in Koontz will be held at the Supreme Court on January 15, 2013.
