History is about to happen at the High Court
By the end of this month, the U.S. Supreme Court is due to rule on the constitutional challenges to the sweeping new federal health care law.
PLF Principal Attorney Timothy Sandefur attended the Court’s hearings on “Obamacare” this spring and provided media commentary nationwide. As he reported, a number of justices shared PLF’s concerns about the law’s intrusiveness.
As we wait for history to unfold, Tim offers some guidance on what to look for in the justices’ ruling:
Bad medicine for freedom
The Christian Science Monitor published Timothy Sandefur’s oped that crystallized, in its title, PLF’s critique of the mandate to buy health insurance: “Obamacare gives Congress license to micromanage every facet of our lives.”
 PLF has submitted more briefs on the health care law, involving more issues, than any other organization. We have been advocating not just for freedom in the abstract, but for the rights of our client — Iowa small business owner Matt Sissel — in our own lawsuit against the health-insurance mandate. The justices’ decision will decide the issues we raised on Matt’s behalf.
